This publication is intended for an international scholarly readership, with contributions written in English, French and German, by scholars from the Netherlands and abroad. It aims at being both a platform for Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies in the Netherlands and an international forum for specialists in these fields, in the East as well as in the West. Orientations will be devoted in particular to the scholarly and multidisciplinary study of contacts between the Islamic world and the West throughout history. Among the more specific areas of interest are political and cultural relations; economic contacts; literary, scientific and artistic influences; the history of religious polemics; Muslims in the West; the history of orientalism. No justification is needed for the selection of the much-studied but inexhaustible general theme of the new annual publication. ORIENTATIONS: the history of the numerous and multifarious relations and contacts between the Middle East and the West, political, economic, cultural and literary.
