Stem cells are now synonymous with regenerative medicine. Realization of the exciting potential for stem cell-based biomedical and therapeutic applications requires a clear and deeper understanding of stem cells. However, the complexity of stem cells' behavior and response associated with the transformation of these precursor cells leaves many questions unanswered about biophysical, biochemical, morphological, structural, proteomic, and functional changes in stem cells. Manipulation and regulation of these potent cells will undoubtedly play a key role in successful translation of stem cell research from bench-to-bedside.
