The Journal of Modern Craft
Published/Hosted by Taylor and Francis Group.
The Journal of Modern Craft, is the first peer-reviewed academic journal to provide an interdisciplinary and international forum for the rigorous analysis of craft. It takes as its starting point the definition of craft as hand work that self-consciously sets itself apart from mass production. Beginning with the arts and craft movement, in which hand work was first consciously framed in opposition to industrialization, The Journal of Modern Craft covers applied art in all its manifestations, placing special emphasis on studio practice and indigenous forms of craft activity throughout the world, especially where these are indicative of or responsive to the conditions of modernity. The journal also reviews and challenges boundaries between traditional conceptions of craft and new media, folk art, and architecture.
