International Journal of Applied Training and Development
Int J Appl Train Dev

ISSN: 1745-5731.

The IJATD aims to enhance the continuing professional development of the Training and Organisational Development Manager and its applied basis will appeal to professionals, managers, academics and graduate students, policy makers and administrators in public and private sector organisations. Training and organisational development impacts on and is affected by every discipline of managerial learning and application, yet it is evident that this intensely exciting area is still at the pioneer stage. ‘Buzz words' such as transformational leadership and management development, lifelong learning and work-based development, business planning objectives linked to training committees with generic terms of reference and training plans reflect a growing realisation of the importance of establishing a fundamentally effective and integrated training function infrastructure linked directly with business planning and achieving organisational objectives. Public and private sector organisations often ‘talk the talk' about being a learning organisation but how many actually ‘walk the walk'? Most pay lip service to developing their workforce but in practical terms, is training and development the afterthought rather than the first thought when it comes to business planning, budgets and senior management commitment? Often public and private sector senior management indulges in the paradox of preaching the virtues of Investors in People, while simultaneously demonstrating what could be construed as either an unwillingness or an inability through lack of understanding of how to implement application, to support its words with appropriate deeds. This highly significant area of contemporary consideration is simply too important to ignore – if you think staff development is expensive, try ignorance! IJATD aims to challenge the future and advocate the positive by presenting cutting edge research that provides readers with a forecast for new training and development thoughts and its application of techniques in practice, linked to an emerging need for education/development of management and all levels of the workforce, publishing theoretical and empirical articles from all countries with differing disciplinary approaches. The teacher-qualified editorial team are all highly motivated achievers and experienced practitioners operating at the cutting edge in areas of substantive development and testing of theory and practice relating to the issues, problems, contexts or processes of developing organisational training and development.
