The journal Mathematical Reports (formerly Studii si Cercetari Matematice) was founded in 1948 by the Section of Mathematics of the Romanian Academy. It appeared under its first name until 1998 and received the current name (Mathematical Reports) in 1999. It is now published in one volume a year, consisting of 4 issues with a total average number of pages yearly of 400. It is indexed or abstracted in Mathematical Reviews and Zentralblatt für Mathematik. The journal publishes original papers, preferably written in English, but also in French, German or Italian, in any area of pure and applied mathematics. The topics cover all branches of Mathematics: Algebra, Group Theory, Lie Algebras, Logic, Combinatorics, Number Theory, Mathematical Analysis, Functional Analysis, Numerical Analysis, Potential Theory, Complex Analysis, Ordinary Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, Optimal Control, Geometry, Algebraic Geometry, Topology, Dynamical Systems, Probability Theory, Statistics, Mathematical Physics, Fluid Mechanics, Solid Mechanics, Calculus of Variations, Mathematical Problems in Sciences, Operational Research. Besides research papers, Mathematical Reports publishes proceedings of international conferences held in Romania, survey articles, excellent Ph. D. theses and book reviews. The Editors will put strong emphasis on originality and applicability of the results rather than formal correctness. All manuscripts are critically refereed and only papers of high quality are accepted for publication. The journal is addressed to all pure and applied mathematicians and to other specialists interested in modern developments of mathematics and in using mathematics in research, teaching, and technology. The journal currently has 50 subscriptions and about 235 exchanges with journals of repute from all over the world.
