European Journal of East Asian Studies is a new multi-disciplinary journal dedicated to East Asia, one of the most varied, complex, and rapidly changing parts of the world. Published in Europe by European specialists, the journal is open to new ideas and findings from wherever they may come. Contributions are welcome from throughout the social science spectrum as well as from modern history (approximately the last 200 years). The journal covers the whole of the broader East Asian region, including Southeast as well as Northeast Asia. The first issue will appear in June 2001. The journal is based at the Institut d'Asie Orientale, in Lyon, and enjoys the support of nine major European research institutions. Two double-issues will be published each year (six papers per double-issue), with special theme issues on aftermath of financial crisis, incipient mass cultures and bio-ethics in East Asia.
