The Russian Journal of Zoology, founded in 1916, publicates articles on all trends of investigations of the animal world including systematics, morphology, histology, cytology, ontogenetics, ecology, ecological physiology, zoogeography, conservation and use of the animal world and etc. The Journal is well known to taxonomists of the whole world as one of the most authoritative resources of taxonomic information on all groups of the animal world. One of the most important problems of the Journal is support and development of complex interdisciplinary researches of the animal world (adaptive mechanisms, species formation, evolutionary process, structure and dynamics of communities and ecosystems, bioenergetics and bioproductive processes, assessment of the animal world state, control of population dynamics, zoological mapping, biomechanics and oth.). Currently much attention is given to estimates of the state and ways of conserving the populations of rare species, principles and methods of assessment and rational use of the bioresource fauna potential, inventory and conservation of biodiversity related to environ-mental dynamics. At present, the English versions of the articles from Russian Journal of Zoology on entomology, ichthyology, and hydrobiology are published in Entomological Review, Journal of Ichthyology, and Hydrobiological Journal.
