The Association for Feminist Anthropology was founded in 1989 at the AAA Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. The goals of the AFA are (1) to foster development of feminist theoretical perspectives in all dimensions of anthropology and to encourage integration of feminist research from the different subfields of anthropology; (2) to facilitate communications among feminist anthropologists and between them and feminist scholars in other related fields; (3) to gather and distribute information on issues related to gender differences and to gender-based discrimination to the discipline and the public; and (4) to encourage and illustrate, through the scholarly pursuits and other practices of the Association, as well as through the diversity of its officers and membership, an appreciation of the interrelatedness of gender with race, ethnicity, class and other bases of difference. Voices is published each spring as a review of the year's activities in feminist anthropology.
