In recent years, the field of forensic mental health services has expanded. One significant emphasis of research and practice has been the assessment and management of threats and violence in a variety of contexts. The Journal of Threat Assessment will be devoted to the assessment and management of threats. This area of study has grown dramatically in the last several years into an interdisciplinary field that includes mental health professionals (i.e., psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, etc.), law enforcement officers, private and public security personnel, lawyers, judges, and those in the criminal justice field. The issues involved are wide in range and encompass criminal law, civil law, family and juvenile law, mental health issues, and organizational administration and management.
