The new Journal of Early Childhood Research will provide an international forum for the dissemination of early childhood research, bridging cross-disciplinary areas and applying theory and research within the professional community. This reflects the world-wide growth in theoretical and empirical research on learning and development in early childhood and the impact of this on provision. The journal will have particular relevance to policy-makers and practitioners working in fields related to early childhood. The Journal of Early Childhood Research will be interdisciplinary in scope, since educational studies has traditionally drawn from psychology, sociology, philosophy, the history and law of education. The journal will draw upon a number of related fields in early childhood: anthropology and linguistics; child health studies; cognitive, clinical, developmental, neuro- and social psychology; curriculum studies, including critical theory and feminist perspectives; epidemiology; neurology; paediatrics; philosophy; research methodology and statistics; social policy studies; social work; sociology.
