ISSN: 1387-1609.

The Comptes Rendus have published for more than 150 years important works of the French scientific community. Chemistry is now available separately as the Academy wishes to develop this discipline. Chemistry used to be published in Series IIB - Mechanics, Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy and there is two series from 1998: IIB - Mechanics, Physics, Astronomy and IIC - Chemistry. The series IIc of the Comptes Rendus de l'Académie des Sciences covers all fields of Chemistry: Physical and Theoretical Chemistry / Thermodynamics and Kinetics / Electrochemistry and Photochemistry / Surface Chemistry and Catalysis / Organic and Organometallic Synthesis / Physical Organic Chemistry / Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry / Molecular Inorganic Chemistry / Macromolecular Chemistry / Solid State Chemistry and Crystal Chemistry / Metallurgical Chemistry / Analytical and Environmental Chemistry / History of Chemistry. The articles presented are original notes describing briefly an important discovery (preliminary communications), short papers with experimental section, short review papers (accounts) and historic chronicles. Each manuscript is submitted to an expert in the field. The series devoted to chemistry publishes 12 issues in 1998 and 14 issues a year from 1999, which lead to rapid publication of significant findings from scientists. Articles are usually published within 2 to 3 months. Articles are published in English or French and at least a one-page abridged version in the other language is systematically offered. Circulation is expanding worldwide with an increasing number of readers and authors, particularly in countries where scientific progress is significant.
