ISSN (printed): 1368-0005. ISSN (electronic): 1467-9612.

The new journal SYNTAX is a welcome arrival with outstanding editors and fine prospects. I look forward with much anticipation to the forthcoming issues. Noam Chomsky Massachusetts Institute of Technology USA " SYNTAX is a new and timely concept: narrower than some by focusing on syntax but broader than others by including various cognitive science aspects. The first two issues already present a tantalizing array of first rate work which fully justifies this ambitious claim and the four editors may be relied upon to fully live up to this promise also in the future." Henk van Riemsdijk Tilburg University The Netherlands Call for Papers The editors invite contributions to this exciting new journal for 1998 - all Submissions should be sent to the editors Suzanne Flynn and Samuel Epstein see submissions section. In addition to full length research articles SYNTAX features short articles which facilitate a fast review process. Aims & Scope SYNTAX aims to unite related but often disjointedly represented areas of syntactic inquiry together in one publication. Within a single forum SYNTAX will accommodate both the explosive growth and increased specialization in the field of syntax. SYNTAX contains a reviewed Open Forum section which debates topical questions concerning syntactical research. Varied discussions include: historical antecedents of current ideas; methodological interdisciplinary and philosophical issues confronting contemporary research and ideas; and issues for undergraduate and graduate teaching of interdisciplinary syntax.
