Soundings
ISSN (printed): 1362-6620. ISSN (electronic): 1741-0797.
Soundings is a unique venture that combines hard-edged political argument with a broad spectrum of cultural content. It explores the possibilities for a convincing new radical vision, and surveys the current political and cultural scene, featuring the key issues that are shaping society. Each issue is a paperback book around 200 pages, half of which is devoted to a theme which is central to our times. Because every aspect of social activity has a dimension of the political, the themes are drawn from a very wide range of experiences and analysis. Recent highlights have included Stuart Hall on the significance of Windrush; Victoria Brittain and Basil Davidson on States of Africa; Chantal Mouffe on the third way; Angela McRobbie on the culture industries; and Bill Schwarz on the Tories; special themes have also included Civil Society, devolution (A Very British Affair) and States of Mind.
