ISSN (printed): 1356-2576. ISSN (electronic): 1470-1235.

Space and Polity is a scholarly international journal devoted to the theoretical and empirical understanding of the changing relationships between the state, and regional and local forms of governance. As part of the wider processes of contemporary restructuring, the territorial basis of politics has come to have increasing importance. Examples are commonplace - the renewed salience of regional and local politics, grassroots political movements, the redefinition of sovereignty - issues which are widely appreciated as being linked to the overarching processes of globalization, to shifts in the nature of civil society and to changing interpretations of the role of the state. While geographers have been active in developing both a theoretical and practical appreciation of the issues, increasingly they have been joined by other social scientists. Space & Polity provides a forum aimed particularly at bringing together social scientists currently working in a variety of disciplines, including geography, political science, sociology, economics, anthropology and development studies, and who have a common interest in the relationships between space, place and politics in less developed as well as the advanced economies. The journal's interdisciplinary basis ensures its appeal to a wide readership. Its main section of 5-6 refereed articles is complemented by book reviews.
