Aims and Scope The European Law Journal represents a new approach to European Law. Its main purposes are to express and to develop the study and understanding of European law in its social cultural political and economic context. The journal is designed to fill a major gap in the current literature in law and other social sciences on issues of European law. Based at the European University Institute in Florence and published in English it brings together contributions across disciplines and national academic traditions. The future of the European Union is now on the agenda. European Union law is in a phase of transformation affecting national legal systems various levels of government organisations interest groups and men and women in a fundamental way. Substantial changes are bound to follow in teaching research and practice. European Law Journal is a forum for the debate on these issues.
