Primatologie is an international journal publishing primarily in French, under the auspices of the Societe Francophone de Primatologie (SFDP). Its main objectives are to develop contacts between French speaking primatologists from around the world, and to promote the development of primatology in general. Primatology is published yearly to coincide with the annual meeting of the SFDP (October). The main section of each issue is devoted to empirical and theoretical papers from the various fields of primatology. Fields covered include anthropology, behavioral sciences, biological and biomedical sciences, cognition, conservation, ecology, neurociences, paleontology and welfare. Both field and laboratory works are considered for publication. Regular papers presenting original empirical findings are encouraged. Further, the journal may consider for publication overviews in which already published datasets are reconsidered from a new perspective. In each issue, symposia of several complementary papers on selected important topics will also be published. Symposia will be co-ordinated by a guest editor, a specialist in the domain. The second section of each issue is the forum of the SFDP, which provides an opportunity to exchange information and opinions on important issues in primatology. This section contains reports on technical and applied problems, and information about the SFDP. At the discretion of the SFDP editor, pages of the forum are also open to non-members of the SFDP. Papers in Primatologie are published in French. However, in order to overcome linguistic barriers and to promote exchanges between French and English speaking primatologists, each paper will be accompanied by an abridged version in English. Legends for figures and tables will also be translated. Moreover, occasional help may be provided for English-to-French translations.
