The journal was founded in 1922 by a committee led by Dr. Charles Laugier and C. D. Fortunescu. The first series appeared between 1922-1943. The actual series (New series) has been published since 1981. It is published in one volume a year, format 24 cm x 16 cm and with a total average number of pages (yearly) of 400. The journal is multi-disciplinary and publishes original papers in the areas of archeology, history, ethnography folklore, philosophy, sociology and economy, book reviews and book descriptions. It is addressed to the specialists interested in research, teaching and to other readers, as well. The journal has in present a number of approximately 36 exchanges with other important journals from all over the world.
