ED Legal Letter covers emergency medicine from the perspective of risk management and malpractice prevention. Each monthly edition reviews the legal issues surrounding a prominent clinical topic, cites relevant case law, and offers specific recommendations for reducing risk in those circumstances. The objectives of ED Legal Letter are to: identify high-risk patients and practices within the ED; discuss a standard of care in the ED for treatment of particular conditions that may be considered as high-risk; explain conditions and practices in which informed consent is required in the ED; cite methods of minimizing risk in the ED setting.
