Gender is a central and essential theme of all social science research in the field of work and organization. Gender Work and Organization was the first journal to bring together wide-ranging research on this theme from a variety of academic disciplines into a new international forum for debate and analysis. The journal is dedicated to advancing theory research and analytically driven applications concerning gender relations at work the organization of gender and the gendering of organizations. Contributions are invited from all disciplinary perspectives including anthropology history labour economics law philosophy politics psychology sociology. The disciplinary research fields on which the journal draws include organisation and management theory cultural studies discourse theory employment law and practice feminist or post-feminist research gender studies human resource management industrial relations labour process and workplace studies. The journal presents critical and scholarly research in a clear and uncomplicated style from a diverse range of fields of inquiry and provides a platform for academic articles that give focus and credibility to gender issues. The range of contributions in Gender Work and Organization includes for example articles on the problems of conceptualizing paid and unpaid work on the varieties of 'masculinity' or 'masculinities' on the labour process of prostitution and on the comparative position of women in professional work in France and Britain. Special issues have been published on the economics of equal opportunities and on culture change in organizations. The journal also includes a regular book review section covering a wide range of international publications related to gender work and organization. Occasional special review articles covering new important areas of the literature are also published.
