Published for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and co-sponsored by the Stockholm Institute for Transition Economics (SITE). The Economics of Transition publishes high quality refereed articles on the economics of transition towards developed market systems. It includes innovative theoretical work as well as econometric analyses of the process of economic reform. It also includes policy symposia and regular book reviews. In order to reflect the recent evolutionary changes in the study of transition The Economics of Transition has broadened its scope to include the analysis of the institutional features that produce (or may prevent) high and durable growth and welfare in the new market economies. The journal encourages submissions that address these issues theoretically and empirically and invites studies of Asian countries such as China and Vietnam of middle income countries in Latin America and of other emerging market economies. Some articles for the journal are invited contributions to symposia and some are based on round-table discussions of critical importance to the process of transition. All articles from whatever source are subject to normal refereeing. Articles are accepted for publication subject to the condition that they have not already been published elsewhere.
