Design Automation for Embedded Systems

ISSN (printed): 0929-5585. ISSN (electronic): 1572-8080.

Embedded (electronic) systems encompass a variety of hardware and software components which perform specific functions in host systems i.e. satellites washing machines hand-held telephones and automobiles. Embedded systems have become increasingly digital with a non-digital periphery (analog power) and therefore both hardware (HW) and software (SW) codesign are relevant. The vast majority of computers (CPUs) manufactured are used in such systems. They are called 'embedded' to distinguish them from standard mainframes workstations and PCs. Although the design of embedded systems has been used in industrial practice for decades the systematic design of such systems has only recently gained increased attention. Advances in microelectronics have made possible applications that would have been impossible without an embedded system design. Design Automation for Embedded Systems is a new multidisciplinary journal which addresses the systematic design of embedded systems focusing primarily on the emerging aspects of HW/SW codesign and system design automation. Design Automation for Embedded Systems offers a forum for: systems designers reporting examples of innovative embedded systems; scientists and engineers working on design automation and computer aided design (synthesis simulation test verification). Relevant topics will span the hardware the software and the environmental (the host system) aspects of embedded systems. Design Automation for Embedded Systems is an innovative journal which distinguishes itself by integrating the design CAD and DA of electronic systems. It extends the scope of traditional design methods which are usually restricted to limited domains such as digital electronics or software leading to a true system design.
