The Western Indian Ocean Journal of Marine Science, founded in 2002, by the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA), is the peer-reviewed journal, which will be published twice a year in both printed and on-line formats. The journal will publish original research articles dealing with all aspects of marine sciences and coastal management, in particular as these relate to the sustainable utilization of coastal and marine resources. Topics include, but are not limited to: theoretical studies, recovery and restoration process, legal and institutional frameworks, and interactions/relationships between humans and the coastal and marine environment. In addition, WIOJMS will also feature state-of-the-art review articles, book reviews, short communications and opinions. The journal will from time to time consist of Special issues on major events or pressing thematic issues. As the research voice of WIOMSA, the WIOJMS provides an avenue for the publication, dissemination, and sharing of the high quality research generated in the WIO region. This is core to the goal of supporting and promoting the sustainable utilization and management of marine resources in the region. As a high quality peer reviewed journal, the WIOJMS also contributes to the global growth of knowledge on coastal and marine ecosystems and their management.
