Acta Phytotaxonomica Sinica is sponsored by the Botanical Society of China and the Institute of Botany, the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It was founded in 1951, continuing publications of the four Chinese botanical journals before 1949, viz, Bulletin of the Fan Memorial Institute of Biology, Botanical Series; Contributions from the Institute of Botany, National Academy of Peiping; Botanical Bulletin of Academia Sinica; and Contributions from the Biological Laboratory of the Science Society of China, Botanical Series. More than half of the articles published by APS are on the taxonomic revisions, nomenclatures and new taxa. Most of the mew taxa in Flora of China (both the Chinese and English versions) were first described in Acta Phytotaxonomica Sinica. This journal has played an important role in the investigation of the biodiversity of China and of the world as well. It has been accredited with the International Association for Plant Taxonomy for registration of new non-fungal plant names.
