Proceedings of the Indian National Science Academy - Part A: Physical Sciences
Proc Indian Natl Sci Acad Phys Sci
Published/Hosted by Indian National Science Academy.
Initially, in the beginning of 1935, the Academy commissioned its journal, the Proceedings of the National Institute of Sciences of India for publishing articles from all branches of Science including Mathematics. As the number of papers accepted increased, it was difficult for them to be accommodated in a single issue, and hence the journal was bifurcated into two parts - Part A (Physical Sciences) and Part B (Biological Sciences) from 1955. Later, as the name of the Academy was changed to Indian National Science Academy, the journal became Proceedings of the Indian National Science Academy in 1970 published in two parts. Six issues of each part are brought out in a calender year. In 1997, a further change in the publication policy cameforth and the Academy decided to shift orientation from January 1998 to publish review articles of contemporary scientific interest, evaluating advances and newer approaches in the field. The emphasis thus shifted from being vehicles of original research reports into ones of reviews, as well as of comprehensive summary reports on chosen topics. The size of the new version of Proceedings has been changed into Demi Quarto International A4 since January 1998. The journals have concentrated on acquisition of special reviews both from India and abroad. For Proceedings Part A, contributions may comprise of concepts fundamental to Physical, Chemical, and Earth Sciences. Contributions in Atmospheric Science, Biophysics and Biomechanics in particular, Biochemistry, Energy, Engineering, Hydrology, Radio Physics, Soil and Ocean sciences and Technology within the broad classification of Marine Geology are also invited. Papers presented at the Academy's Symposia, Seminar/Conferences/Workshops in the areas of Physical, Chemical, Earth and Ocean Sciences and Technology would be considered for publication. Proceedings Part-B covers all the areas of Life Sciences, viz., Physiology, Cell Biology, Cytogenetics, Genetics, Ecology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pathology, Endocrinology, Physiology of Reproduction, etc. relating to plants and animals. The reviews must be well presented to be of interest to a wide section of researchers and other scientists. Though the editor may invite papers on special topics, refereeing will be done for contributions whether invited or otherwise. As per the recent policy, the journal publishes thematic issues, generally with one of the active researchers in the field as the Guest Editor. Suggestions for thematic issues on current topics of interest will be welcome.
