The Geological Society of Finland, founded in 1886, began its publishing activities in 1929. Volumes 1–39 were entitled ”Comptes Rendus de la Société Géologique de Finlande” and appeared as a double edition with the ”Bulletin de la Commission géologique de Finlande” (former Geological Survey of Finland, Bulletin). Since 1968, from number 40 onwards, the Society´s serial publication has born the title ”Bulletin of the Geological Society of Finland”. Vuoteen 2006 mennessä on Bulletin-sarjassa ilmestynyt 89 numeroa. Artikkeleja on julkaistu varsin tasaisesti kaikilta geologian osa-alueilta, joilla Suomessa tutkimusta tehdään. Kirjoittajina on ollut niin koti- kuin ulkomaisiakin tutkijoita lähes sarjan alusta asti.
