Australian Family Physician (AFP) is the official journal of The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and Australias only Medline listed, fully peer reviewed journal for GPs. Since 1970, AFP has been dedicated to meeting the ongoing educational requirements of general practitioners with a broad range of original articles and reviews. As this is owned by the RACGP, the journal is uniquely positioned to provide GPs with precisely what they want. It is often referred to as the gold standard or the GPs journal. AFP provides more than 23,500 general practitioners and some 9500 specialists with a source of accurate, relevant, independent and stimulating research, medical education, and debate in general practice each month. The journal encourages improved patient care and the academic development of the discipline. It also supports GPs in providing the highest quality primary health care in rural and urban Australia and the enhancement of the health and wellbeing of the community. AFP also goes to general practice registrers and it goes without saying that it further strengthens their links with the College and enhancing their clinical knowledge. Articles are peer reviewed for accuracy and objectivity to ensure AFP fulfills its important role in assisting GPs to remain up to date with everyday clinical issues. This is a highly intensive process, which encourages the development of quality medical authorship. This policy has resulted in GPs rating AFP as the most authoritative and most credible publication they read.
