AAPPS Bulletin

ISSN: 0218-2203.

The Association of Asia Pacific Physical Societies (AAPPS) is a professional association consisting of 17 member physical societies as listed inside the back cover of this Bulletin and serving primarily the physicists in the vast, but currently poorly organized, geographical region of Asia, Australia, and the vicinity. The primary task of the AAPPS Bulletin, as we see it, is to report major happenings in the physics community defined by the AAPPS, to bring to the attention of the scientists in the Asia Pacific region those events or activities which take place outside the region but which may have important bearings on this community, and to publish scientific articles which, in our judgment, may interest physicists worldwide. Since 2001, we publish 4 issues per year, 4,000 copies per issue, and, starting from this year, plan to increase to 6 bimonthly issues and more than 5,000 copies for distributions around the world, currently about twothirds in the Asia-Pacific region and another one-third for institutions and individuals in the U.S., Canada, Europe, South America, etc. We conscientiously attempt to make the Bulletin reaching the eyes of those physicists who may be interested, thereby helping to bring your contributions to the attention of many people far beyond your imagination. Through the AAPPS Bulletin, it is hoped that the members in the AAPPS community can understand one another much more and much better, that they can be understood by those outside the Asia Pacific region, and that meaningful international cooperations can eventually develop. We believe that mutual understandings and international cooperations are in the root of ever-lasting peace and prosperity in this world.
