Enseñanza de las Ciencias

ISSN: 0212-4521.

Since the publication of its first issue, in March 1983, the journal Enseñanza de las Ciencias has established itself as an essential point of reference, specially among professionals teaching Mathematics and Experimental Sciences in Spain and Latin America. Indeed, the journal is today a vehicle for the communication of research carried out in Latin America, as well as for researchers in other countries who have used it to make their work known to Spanish readers. The journal's aims are related to various subjects that may be specified in the following way: Firstly, in relation to the field of science teaching, to deepen the understanding of the theoretical bases of published studies and research projects, to foster reflection based on the situation and the perspectives of the various lines of research that are a priority at present, and to promote interpretative studies that will advance in the understanding of significant problems related to the learning of sciences. Secondly, to promote studies which answer the needs of the teaching staff of Sciences and Mathematics and which may heighten the impact of various educational practices in the classroom or in informal contexts; to favour the publication of studies related to the teaching and the learning of scientific and mathematic contents that analyze classroom management (work in small or large groups, cooperation and individual work, etc.), the degree of involvement of the student in the process of learning, his/her autonomy or dependency, catering for the diversity of interests and levels of the pupils in a group or class, the design and production of activities of various types, the treatment of errors in the learning process, etc. Finally, to foster critical analyses of the studies that are currently being carried out. The Institut de Ciències de l'Educació of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Vice-presidency of Research of the Universitat de València that made the publishing of this journal possible wish to continue to offer its pages to all those interested in the teaching of Sciences and Mathematics.
