SIGIR welcomes members working in all aspects of information storage, retrieval, and dissemination, including research strategies, output schemes, and system evaluation. Of special note is SIGIR involvement with the National Science Foundation's initiative to form a National Electronic Science, Engineering, and Technology Library. SIGIR sponsors its own conference on research and development in information retrieval and co-sponsors several other conferences and workshops. Areas of Special Interest: Information retrieval theory, programming, schemes, IR system evaluation and development of equipment best suited to the task.
