For more than thirty years, Theater has been the most informative, serious, and imaginative American journal available to readers interested in contemporary theater. It has been the first publisher of pathbreaking plays from writers as diverse as Athol Fugard, JoAnne Akalaits, August Wilson, and Adrienne Kennedy. Its contributors include such distinguished critics as Alisa Solomon, Elinor Fuchs, Marc Robinson, Gordon Rogoff, and Stanley Kauffmann. It has printed writings on theater by dramatists from Heiner Muller to Suzan-Lori Parks. Invaluable special issues have covered a range of topics: South African theater, Brecht/"Brecht," theater and Utopia, Meyerhold, and theater and apocalypse. Theater appeals to practitioners, academics, and scholars interested in the art of making theater and theater criticism, as well as those interested in contemporary American and European theater practice.
