Acta Biotechnologica was launched as an international scientific journal dedicated to promoting and supporting the further development of biotechnology. Now at the end of its second decade Acta Biotechnologica while continuing to cover all aspects of applied and environmental biotechnology and microbiology in both science and industry has been redesigned to reflect the modern fast moving interdisciplinary nature of this field. Within biotechnology new areas have matured during the last years. Acta Biotechnologica is reacting to these developments by reorganising its aims and scope and will enter the new era with special focus on up-to-date well-researched and innovative papers dealing with environmental biotechnology and microbiology. In keeping with the technological nature of the journal all its papers on microbiology and genetics biochemistry and chemistry should show themselves to be technologically relevant. The journal publishes independently reviewed original papers short communications reports and reviews as well as book reviews and announcements. It serves as a world-wide forum for scientific exchange and information in the field of biotechnology.
