Frühmittelalterliche Studien is considered by the editors as a forum of comprehensive medieavalistic studies. The yearbook is intended to help to overcome the division of a manifold tradition, which bears witness to the same inseparable contexts in life expressed in different ways, into special fields of work of a conventional subject classification. Whilst maintaining the viewpoints of each specialist subject, a combining discussion brings together disciplines which deal with traditional groups of a culture circle belonging to one another or study closely related phenomena which can only be understood in synopsis. This is why the Frühmittelalterliche Studien attaches great importance to contributions whose formulation of a problem and perspective already exceeds the individual subject.
