Aliso is published semiannually by the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, 1500 North College Avenue, Claremont, California 91711-3157. The name of the journal, Aliso, is the word used by the early Californians for the western sycamore (Platamus racemosa), a tree associated with the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden. In other areas Aliso may refer to alder (Almus sp.). Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden is devoted to the collection, cultivation, study, and display of native California plants and to graduate training and research in plant systematics and evolution. Through all of its programs, the mission of the Garden is to make significant contributions to the appreciation, enjoyment, conservation, understanding, and thoughtful utilization of our natural heritage.
