The field of decision in the social sciences has been investigated from many perspectives. All too often however different research approaches have been followed separately by management science economics psychology operations research praxeology cybernetics and computer-aided decision making. They need mutual enrichment. Theory and Decision addresses the cross-fertilization of the methods of these disciplines. The purpose of the journal is to let the engineering of decision making (i.e. of intelligence choice sorting out ranking uncertainty and conflict resolution) gradually emerge. Special attention is paid to complex or ill-structured situations. Mathematical or other formalized treatments are favoured if they provide a correct model of the situation under study. Of particular interest are: Preference and uncertainty modeling Multicriteria decision making Social choice negotiation and group decision Game theory gaming and conflict analysis Rationality cognitive processes and interactive decision making Methodology and philosophy of the social and decision sciences. Applications to various problems in management and organization science economics and finance systems analysis and artificial intelligence are welcome provided they are of sufficiently general interest.
