Protoplasma An International Journal of Cell Biology is specializing in the areas between microscopic anatomy and molecular biology where new approaches integrate structural and functional studies at molecular biochemical and physiological levels. The journal is pleased to consider original manuscripts dealing with the cell biology of both single and multicellular organisms plant animal or fungal. Appropriate topics include molecular cytology; experimental and quantitative ultrastructure; membrane biology including biogenesis dynamics energetics and electrophysiology; cellular and intracellular transport and trafficking phenomena; the cytoskeleton; organelles cyto- and histochemistry; and the cell cycle. Also considered are papers concerned with development differentiation cellular dynamics pathology or pathogenesis and environmental aspects of cell biology. In addition to regular research articles and expedited Rapid Communications Protoplasma publishes comprehensive Review Articles concise expositions of matters of topical interest under the heading "New Ideas in Cell Biology" and items of significance to the historical development of cell biology as "Classics Revisited".
