Founded in 1955, Phronesis has become the most authoritative scholarly journal for the study of ancient Greek and Roman thought (ancient philosophy, psychology, metaphysics, epistemology and the philosophy of science and medicine) from its origins down to the end of the sixth century A.D. Phronesis offers the reader specialist articles, discussion notes and book notes from top scholars in Europe and North America. The language of publication is in practice English, although papers in Latin, French, German and Italian are also published. Papers published in Phronesis are those that combine analysis of arguments and analysis of texts, and which, even if they are on topics that are of minority interest in themselves, will nevertheless appeal to ancient philosophy specialists generally - e.g. an article on Epicurus' ethics, say, will be more welcome if it makes points that can be used in their own way by students of other ancient ethical writings.
