Now entering its thirty-first year, this distinguished journal is known for publishing original literary and cultural studies of the ancient world and of the field of classics that combine contemporary theoretical perspectives with more traditional approaches to literary and material evidence. Interdisciplinary in nature from the beginning, Arethusa often features special thematic issues, such as "The New Simonides" (Volume 29, Number 2), which was recognized by the Association of American Publishers Professional/Scholarly Publishing Division as one of the best single journal issues published in 1996.
